Fidelity AmEx (FIA) Credit Card (Discontinued)

Fidelity Investment Rewards American Express Card (FIA) Review

Application Link:

This card no longer accepts new applications. See Fidelity Rewards Credit Card for the new Fidelity 2% card.

Features:

  1. Earn $50 after spending $500 in first 2 months.
  2. Earn 2% cash back on every purchase you make.
  3. No annual fee.
  4. With this card, you can get access to Amex Offer, which usually offers very good discounts at some stores, such as: spend $15 or more and get $5 back at Walmart; spend $75 or more and get $25 back on Amazon.com.

Disadvantages:

  1. FIA is an American Express card, which is not accepted as widely as Visa or MasterCard. Since 2% cash back on everything is designed for non-bonus categories, this may cause some trouble sometimes.
  2. Foreign Transaction Fee exists, so better not use it outside United States.
  3. You can apply online only if you are a U.S. person (see  How to Distinguish Different Tax Status ). If you are a Non-resident Alien, you need to call to apply:

Summary:

This card is a no-brainer choice: everything 2% cash back with no annual fee, worth applying for everyone. You probably should use this card for all transactions that don’t have 2%+ reward rate. Citi Double Cash is very similar to another card FIA, which also gives you 2% cash back everywhere with no annual fee. On the one hand, FIA is an AmEx card, which is not accepted as widely as MasterCard; on the other hand, FIA has AmEx Offers, which could be give you more rewards. We recommend Citi Double Cash if you don’t want to spend time on AmEx Offers.

Recommended Application Time:

  1. We recommend you apply for this card after you have a credit history of at least one year.
  2. You can have at most 2 BoA credit cards if you are a student.

Historical Offers Chart:

This card is discontinued on 2015.12.28.
