Free bet blackjack info

Apr 10, 2013, 9:00 AM

This game has me confused, I checked out the Wizard of odds but not enough details.

Does the dealer push if he has 22 or over? Or just 22

Seems like the house edge is nill but there has to be a catch somewhere LOL

Thanks

BoBear......the "catch" is that a dealer 22 is a push. Anything over a 22 and the dealer busts.

This is a really great game. Normally I try to stick to traditional blackjack tables and avoid these variations on the game, but I played it quite a bit on both of my trips last year, and plan on playing a lot more next month.

It is currently at Golden Nugget (6-deck shoe, 3:2), Mirage (CSM, 3:2), and Casino Royale (6-deck shoe?, 6:5). The creator of the game is working on getting it into more Vegas casinos as it continues to gain popularity. I know that he is visiting another strip casino next month to install the game, but I am not sure if it is public knowledge which casino it is going to be. All I can tell you is that I saw a gondola there once.

Due to the fact that you will get a free bet on all splits (with the exception of 10s), and also a free bet on double downs on 9, 10, or 11, the basic strategy for this game is a little different than regular blackjack. It seems to be built around the fact that you should take ALL free bet opportunities, some of which go against regular basic strategy. There are also some other minor variations, such as hitting a 12 against a dealer 4. There is also yet another strategy to follow for the free hand. It seems a little confusing at first, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it.

It has been said that this is not the forum to get gambling advice, and what I am about to say is probably proof of that. On my last trip I played this game a lot, and started out using the Free Bet basic strategy (which is available on the wizard of odds site), but found that I had better luck using normal basic strategy instead, with the exception of taking ALL free bet opportunities. This may be bad advice, but it is what I have experienced so far. I might try using the Free Bet strategy again on my next trip to see how it goes, but will adjust accordingly.

I tried to play freebet blackjack at Golden Nugget in November, but they had temporarily discontinued it. Since we will be on the strip in May, I'd love to give it a go at the Mirage. Do you know what the minimum bet is for the freebet at the Mirage?

kep...I believe it is $10 at the Mirage. They started it up again after the first of the year at GN. They also have moved the table into a busier pit, which is helping the game more. When I was there in September last year, it was in a pit that was not real busy, and I was at the table all alone most of the weekend. I am glad to hear that it is getting more play, since it is more fun with other players.

When in May will you be in Vegas?

gerry...what time were you playing it at Aria yesterday? I was there playing it from the time they opened the table (a little before 9am) until almost 11am. If you played during that time, then we played "together". LOL!

Luxor, NYNY, Tropicana, Venetian, and Palazzo are all supposed to have a Free Bet blackjack table sometime this month. It is a really fun game!

Does the Aria use the auto-shuffler for the Free Bet blackjack? I might try again if it doesn't involve the auto-shuffler. Glad to hear other properties are starting to pick it up.
